what is the difference between system software and application software?

Darrel Stele: System software is design for a computer that control ands work with computer hardware while Application software can be divided into two general classes: systems software and applications software.

Abraham Ladick: Basically the system software is your operating system (windows XP, vista, apple) application software is anything which you install into windows (games, word, graphics programs)
