Do I e-test and safety my car before selling it? ?

Samatha Nicar: It depends on the state you live in. Some states require a smog and safety test. Others just require a smog certificate. Some states require these things to be done anytime you sell a car privately. Other states say if it's been done within a year, that is all that's needed. Then again, other states will not require it if it's been done within the past two years.You need to find out what is specified by your state. Try your local DMV for the answer. I wish all the states would conform to just one way of conducting car sales and registration, both privately and through dealerships. It sure would save us from a lot of migraines....Show more
