Legalize Gambling. Control or Choice?

Misty Vagle: of course its a choice! like anything else, its your choice to make something that you like into an addiction. all the idiots around these days, fueled by other idiots, you can now claim the following as an "addiction":- caffeine- soda- fast food (someone tried to sue in CA, claiming the fast food companies were evil and made the person fat dunno outcome of the case, if I was on the jury I probably would be shortly thrown out after viciously telling the truth to the guy. the fast food companies didn't make him fast, they didn't exactly force his mouth open and jam food down his throat! he ate it all voluntarily. all the blame is on himself, not someone else. hope he kills himself, we can do without people like that in our gene pool)- tobacco (its all mental. really. all mental)- alcohol (in the middle ages everyone drank alcohol, yet no one got addicted to it)- spending money too much (and spend more money to get out of it. seems counter productive to me)- se! x (apparently some men can be sex addicts, this is not a joke)- speed (as in speeding on the roads)- guns (used to be an american thing, now that's frowned on in some states so people say its a addiction for social acceptance)- very expensive toys like jet skis and stuff- clothes- KFC (for whatever reasons the others are not included, only KFC. they'd been accused of putting chemicals in their food to make people addicted)- hamburgers (introduced in 1889 but not an addiction until around 2006. hmm why is that?)- gambling- lottery (a state-sponsored form of gambling)- gaming where money is involved- video games- games where money is not involved, people just can't control themselves. - marijuana (portrayed as this really evil thing by the church. between 1864 to 1906 when the law passed)- violence, whether that's violence in games or real lifeeverything is a choice, you choose to gamble, and you choose to keep gambling until you're in debt and robbing convenience stores to f! uel your poor choices....Show more

Alise Rutgers: Gambli! ng is legal in my state, and in the 11 years I've lived within a few miles of a casino, I've lost a total of maybe $200. I only go when I can afford to lose $50, and only lose that amount. But sometimes I also win. Most of the time, I just save the $50, but sometimes I just really want to go have some fun at the Blackjack tables, so I go about once every year or two.Now tell me how controlling it is?Yes, there are people that are addicted to it. But there are also people addicted to alcohol, potato chips, caffeine, tobacco, and many other things. Should everything that can be addictive be banned, or should people just take some personal responsibility for their actions, and if they know they can't control it, seek help to get the will power to quit....Show more

Lawanna Livsey: your problem is in the second line you posted."Should gambling be legal?" gambling is legal in many areas. You are debating a moot point.
