i have a question about landline phones?

Sonya Volcko: Okay many answers here.Land line - voice mail was established before cell voice mail and operate pretty much the same way that cell phones do. The message that you have heard can be for a land line or for a cell phone. If a land line phone is shut off, then it does not go directly to voice mail, but if you are on the phone, then it will go directly to voice mail. The same effect if you just take the phone off the hook. Leaving a phone off hook is not a good idea. There is something called local number portability and if someone had a land line and wanted to change to a cell phone, then they could keep the same number, but it would appear in a lot of records as being a land line.So could your boyfriend be telling the truth and it is a cell phone, yes? Do cell phone voice mail systems and land line voice mail systems work the same way, pretty much?I hope that I covered all of your questions....Show more

Providencia Serpe: Phone companies DO offer voicem! ail on landlines. (for a nominal fee of course)The phone does not need to be plugged into the wall for it to go to voicmail.

Marielle Hedeiros: I have a cell and a landline, but for you it sounds like it might be better to get rid of your landline...as long as you have good service at your house, unlimited minutes and are able to charge your phone frequently, it's seams like you're all set!

Arden Strachn: the recording does not mean that the voice mail is for a cellular phone, or a landline phone... if it is your BF you should know what type of phone it is.... but if you want to check the company that issued the phone number you can go to http://www.telcodata.us/ on the left side there is a link that says AREA/EXCHANGE click that link and enter the area code and first 3 digits of the number, and it will tell you the company who "owns" that number... it also will tell you the type of service, wireless, RBOC (landline), CLEC(landline).... this is however not 100% ! conclusive because the number could have been ported from land! line to cell, or the other way around.......Show more
