New references or no?

Dick Ovdenk: Some conversations that come up are just weird with the people he asked to be his reference.

Salvador Prchlik: If your reference is a weirdo, they don't hold that against you. The employer just thinks "oh, I see why he left." :) If the reference doesn't like you however, if you think they would intentionally say bad things to spike your chances, then don't use them. Most of the time, employers eitherA) don't bother calling references. (It's more work for them and they have lots of applicants.)B) only call to verify that you actually did work the time you saidC) ask you during the interview who the reference is and how you know them.So at the worst case, when your friend is in the interview if there's something weird about the contact he can give a heads up so the employer will know what to expect. That said, you should have contacts you trust. So switch if you have a better option, but don't go bouncing around just because. It wouldn't be worth the h! eadache....Show more
