You should definatly try and get a copy of Photoshop, It's very useful for all kinds of things, but as far as animation goes, not one of the top-used programs.For 2D animation there are 2 types, Classical, and Computer. Useful progr! ams are Flip book - for hand drawn stuff. Toonboom and Flash, for computer stuff. All of them are fun to play with. The best way to start is to take life drawing classes, it is the back bone of animating and the best way to improve your drawing skills. Don't worry too much about learning how to animate, work on your drawing and cartooning skills. Practice drawing characters in all different poses. The best Animation schools in the USA are in the south, I was looking at one in San Fransisco that was my 2nd choice. My first choice (the school I'm going to) Is in Toronto, www.maxthemutt.com Take a look at the course outline for the classical animation program. These are the types of courses you should look for in a potential school. Life drawing and Anatomy are the most important courses, next cartooning and animation. Even if you are interested in doing 3D, you should still focus on life drawing, but consider taking up sculpting as well.
