How do I become a real estate agent?

Danette Slotnick: Each state has their own real estate license requirements. You would be required to attend and take the required real estate courses at a local real estate school of each state you would want to list and sell real estate.. Upon completion of the real estate school and course, you would need to apply to take the state license real estate examination. You should Google real estate agent license requirements followed by the state in which you would like to obtain the real estate license from. This site would give you all the local requirements. On this board most do not reside in the state in which you might want to get your license. Therefore you would be getting general information, not state specific for your state.#1 Get the necessary education to get your state license.A. An internet class would do just fine you are only trying to get your license.B. If you like to sit through a class then find a real estate school in your local area.C. Some real estate ! offices offer career real estate license school in their office D. Some states allow you to take the real estate broker test as long as you have a diploma from a recognized 4 year university or college. Check to see if you reside in one of these states.#2 Obtain the necessary continuing education to maintain and keep your license to sell real estate up to date.#3 Formalize the best marketing plan you can think of to maintain a high degree of referrals and a good customer base.#4. Become an expert in the area of real estate you would want to succeed in.You want to become an expert in real estate not just a person that sell and list houses. There is a big difference.#5. Attend as many real estate seminars and career enhancement educational and motivational seminars as you can. Not only would they be a welcome break from the work schedule, but would enhance your image and count as continuing education.#6. Join the local and national real estate organizations and associations. ! They are a great source for current trends and perhaps help in! continuing education subjects. Several are a must to join if you plan to be successful in the real estate career field.I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck."FIGHT ON"...Show more

Dallas Bartolini: In many states you do not have to live in the state at all- but of course to succeed I think you should live in the exact area you want to do business in and become very familiar with the area. The schooling is just to pass the state test. The company you work for will help you learn how to succeed (or should help you).

Phillip Modafferi: you kind of have to be familiar with the area you are working in and you better have another FULL TIME job ready to go wherever you are moving to. RE agnts can go MONTHS between paydays, especially their first few years

Cole Desher: The qualifications vary by state. So the first answer is that, yes, you do need to get a license in each state you plan to do business in. Some states have reciprocity agreements ! with other states making it easier to do business in both states (you still need a license in both states). And almost all states have some requirement to take classes. Again this varies by state - and most states require the license applicant to have taken some classes.

Barton Morfee: Yes, you have to be licensed in each state you work as a realtor. Make up your mind where you want to live and take the course there, for that state. No, you do not have to live in a place for a long time to work as a realtor there but, if you go in completely green, you will not be very helpful when you are asked a question about an area and you have no idea.
